Intimations of Austen...

... is a collection of short stories inspired by the writings of Jane Austen. 

There are so many of us.  So many whose first encounter with literature was through the blessed medium of Jane Austen.  I discovered Elizabeth and Anne, Catherine, Emma, and Fanny, Elinor and Marianne when my mind and body were still forming.  Sometimes I think that their stories have become hardwired into my psyche over the years. 

One of the wonderful things about reading great literature is that I can become intimate with the characters and the world created in the fiction to the point where the story continues in my mind long after the final page runs out of words.  As a writer, it is natural that I tell the stories that bubble up first.  Sometimes I feel like I'm skimming the cream, but extensions and variations are time-honored methods of learning technique.  I make no apology and offer no warnings.  I have plundered Austen's works in order to find my own stories to tell.  She gave me a springboard, and I'm praying that there's water in the pool.
